As we reported earlier this week, the Verizon Wireless Network Extender is available starting today with a price of $249.99. The device is manufactured by Samsung and is known as a femtocell, which is basically a mini-cell tower used in a home or office that provides up to 5000 square feet of coverage. It plugs into your broadband connection (router not included) and sends voice calls through it. Up to 3 phones can use the Network Extender at once, with a 4th channel designated for 911 calls. EVDO is not supported. If you place a call within range of the Extender and then move out of range, the call will automatically transfer to a "real" tower, but you cannot do the reverse.
